Sounding the Call: Singer Gloria Estefan of the Latin pop group Miami Sound Machine got a group of volunteers together Tuesday to start a private relief effort for victims of Hurricane Andrew. Estefan and her husband-manager, Emilio, turned their south Miami offices into a distribution center for donated diapers, food and water. “I thought, ‘I’ve got a roof, I’ve got space. Let’s start a collection agency,’ †she told reporters. Estefan, who lives on Miami’s exclusive Star Island, said she suffered only landscaping damage from the devastating hurricane that roared through Florida on Aug. 24.
