TWA to Close Big Reservation Center: Trans World Airlines said it will close its New York reservation center and lay off 450 workers. The center, in the office and retail complex that also holds Amtrak’s Pennsylvania Station and Madison Square Garden, will close Oct. 25. The airline, which employs 28,000, has said that as part of its planned reorganization in bankruptcy court it would streamline its operations and lay off some workers. TWA said other layoffs are expected, and added that routine fall cutbacks at airports in Kansas City, St. Louis, Los Angeles and New York would likely be steeper this year.
