Do N.Y. Sheriff’s Tactics Enforce Spirit of Law?
After reading Paul La Rosa’s article regarding New York Sheriff Crimaldi, (“Ultimate Rep Man,” July 23) I found myself disappointed after the first paragraph.
La Rosa describes Sheriff Crimaldi as an aggressively powerful individual. Crimaldi uses the strong arm approach to collect from the “debtors.”
I agree that the delinquent debts must be collected, but at such great lengths? Is there a great deal of thought put into the long-term effects this will have on the employees of the debtor? After all, those employed by the debtors were simply trying to earn their living and not be a part of the unemployment rate.
When I received my police training, I was taught not only to enforce the letter of the law, but also the spirit of the law.
