Re your Youth Beat article (“Glasgow’s Wealth of Free Exhibits,” July 19), it suddenly struck me as a Glaswegian that this article failed to give recognition to the outstanding free exhibition which was dedicated to the city of Glasgow in 1983 and is known as the “Burrell Collection.”
From my knowledge of the Glasgow art galleries and other public exhibits, if youthful visitors to the city saw nothing else but the collection assembled by the late Sir William Burrell, they would leave Glasgow not only refreshed intellectually, but perhaps filled with the same desire that the late Sir William had for assembling a collection--which in his case started with his buying art works as a boy and didn’t stop until his death in 1958 about 80 years later.
