San Diego : Youth Injures Spine in Cliff Dive
A 16-year-old was in fair condition Wednesday after diving off Sunset Cliffs, striking his head and severely injuring his spinal cord.
Tobias O’Laughlin, 16, from the Central California town of Hanford, struck rocks during low tide off the foot of Osprey Street about 6:30 p.m. Monday, a city lifeguard spokesman said.
O’Laughlin dived from a 10-foot-high cliff into water about 5 feet deep, the spokesman said.
The youth was resting in the intensive care unit at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. O’Laughlin arrived in San Diego last week and was visiting relatives.
