Re “Glitch Leave Developers Facing Steep Back-Tax Bill” (July 25): Since the county routinely denies any property tax appeals by the owner after the deadline has passed, I do not believe it should have the right to claim any back taxes resulting from its computer glitch.
As property value has declined significantly over the past three years, the assessor’s office may well end up with even less tax revenue with a reassessment.
A better solution would be for our county government to install an automatic audit system for all of its software programs and forget about its “past trespasses.” Surely, denial on retroactive reassessment or appeals should be just as good for the taxed as for the taxer.
