Gnocchi Bracelet: Now That’s Italian!
A LITTLE RAVIOLI FOR YOUR NECK, MY DEAR?: What happens when two designers are introduced at an Italian restaurant by a mutual friend who’s Italian?
In the case of Antonia Christopher and Patricia Connors, they immediately teamed up to make a line of jewelry based on Mediterranean-style pastas.
The shapes are cast in pewter, then gilded in 24-karat gold or sterling silver. The result? Tortellini earrings, ravioli necklaces, gnocchi bracelets and more.
The line is called Tutt’e Due (pronounced too-tay DOO-ay, which means “both of themâ€). Prices range from $18 to $210 at L’Accessories in Long Beach, Gearys in Beverly Hills and the La Costa Health Spa gift shop in Carlsbad.
For additional shops, call Tutt’e Due at (619) 454-6728. It’s worth it.
YO! MALL OF AMERICA, CHECK THIS: Southern California may not have an oversize, Disneyland-style entertainment/shopping center like Minnesota’s new Mall of America--yet. In the meantime, though, the Glendale Galleria has created Kids Co, a free club that stages activities for children 2 to 12.
At the Aug. 8 meeting, for instance, Kids Co members will tape a rap music video. Also, the media-wise tykes are scheduled to write letters to George Bush and Bill Clinton, suggesting how the presidential candidates can improve the environment.
Kids Co meets monthly in the Glendale Galleria’s Palm Court. For more information, call (818) 240-9481.
A PIECE OF KEITH HARING ART THAT FITS IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND: Los Angeles’ Pediatric AIDS Foundation will receive 25% of the proceeds from sales of gold brooches designed by the late Keith Haring, who died of AIDS in 1990.
The brooches are $10,000 and a letter of authenticity from the Haring estate accompanies each one.
The brooch is an outline of a baby starting to crawl, Haring’s famed logo. About 120 (in a limited edition of 200) are left. They can be purchased through Artwear, the Soho gallery for artists’ jewelry.
