Glitch Blacks Out Data on Flights at John Wayne
IRVINE — A glitch in the computer system at John Wayne Airport on Thursday caused a complete blackout on all of the digital screens displaying flight departure and arrival information.
For most of the day, those who came to the airport had to use courtesy phones to find out which gate they had to go to, said airport community operator Rachel Reyes.
“It’s a little bit of an inconvenience, but all the airlines are aware of the problem, and they can tell people where to go,†Reyes said.
As of late Thursday, maintenance workers were still working on the computer system to determine what caused the 11 a.m. malfunction, she said. Reyes said that as far as she knew, such a blackout had never happened at the airport before.
