At least 19 dogs at a race track in Pensacola, Fla., have died from a viral infection, and state officials have alerted other Florida tracks to look out for the disease.
The state veterinarian for the Florida Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering has been sent to the Pensacola track to identify the infection and prevent its spread.
“Florida’s greyhound industry thus far has been only marginally affected by the spread of the disease, which industry experts indicate may be controlled through routine vaccination,†according to a Department of Business Regulation release.
