Man Kills Wife, Then Self at Motel

A man fatally wounded his wife and then shot himself to death after an argument in a Studio City motel room, Los Angeles police said Saturday.

Paul Kundrat, a resident of Washington, was pronounced dead at the scene Friday, said Sgt. Phil Butler. His wife, Vicki Kundrat, 42, was taken to AMI Medical Center of North Hollywood and later transferred to Olive View Medical Center where she died that night.

Butler said officers responded to a report of gunfire at the Sherman Oaks Inn, 12933 Ventura Blvd., at about 2:30 p.m. They found the couple, both shot in the head, in one of the rooms, he said.

Butler said it is unknown what the argument was about. The couple had apparently been planning to move to the area from Washington.

Vicki Kundrat’s 11-year-old son from a previous marriage was in another room when the shootings occurred. Police placed the boy in the care of the Los Angeles County Department of Children’s Services until his natural father can be contacted.
