LANCASTER : Man, Slain Father Shot in Robbery

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department identified two men shot Sunday at a Lancaster apartment building as a father and son, who were attacked during a robbery.

William Gillard, 69, was fatally wounded when he was shot once in the chest after two gunmen burst into his apartment in the 800 block of East Avenue J-12, Deputy Gabe Ramirez said.

Gillard died at Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center. His 39-year-old son, Michael Gillard, who lived with his father, was also shot during the incident but was treated for minor injuries and released.

Deputies said there were no suspects in the case and refused to say what was taken by the robbers or what happened in the apartment before the shooting.
