British Deal Expands UPS European Presence
ATLANTA — United Parcel Service Inc. said it has acquired a major British package delivery company, completing its European ground shipping network.
UPS, a privately held company based in Atlanta, did not disclose the terms of its purchase of Carryfast Ltd., which it called the largest privately owned express parcel service in Britain.
UPS has been growing rapidly in Europe during the last few years but until now has not had a major presence in the United Kingdom.
“We now provide a fully integrated ground and air delivery service throughout Europe that is linked into a global operation,†said Don Layden, UPS senior vice president of international operations.
UPS provides air and ground delivery service to 13 European countries. The Carryfast acquisition is UPS’ 16th in Europe since 1985.
With revenue of $15 billion and volume of 2.9 billion packages a year, UPS is the world’s largest parcel distribution company.
