Merrill Lynch to Beef Up Florida Center: Merrill Lynch & Co., which plans to open a 600-employee operations center in Jacksonville, Fla., in August, has announced plans to add two more buildings to handle another 1,000 back-office workers. Construction is expected to begin immediately on a new building to be completed next summer. The second would follow by 1994. In an effort to save money and increase efficiency, the firm has been consolidating its 14 regional centers.
