Spirit Soccer Club Wins First Match at Regionals
Stephanie Hughes of Corona del Mar and Christine Tyler of Edison each scored two goals Saturday to lead the Spirit, an Orange County soccer club, to an 8-0 victory over Wyoming, in its first pool-play match at the girls’ 16-and-under Western Regionals held in Golden, Colo.
Kiki Bailey had three assists and goalie Allie Havriulk had four saves in the shutout. The Spirit, the Southern California champion, plays Hawaii at 11 a.m. today and play its final two pool-play games Monday and Tuesday.
Thirteen teams are split into two pools with the top two teams from each pool advancing to Tuesday afternoon’s semifinals. The finals are at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
