Re “Eleanor Roosevelt”:
Marguerite (Missy) LeHand, F.D.R.’s secretary for many years, suffered a paralyzing stroke in 1941. She died on Aug. 2, 1944. It is not likely that she could have been in Warm Springs in April 1945, at the time of the death of President Roosevelt.
Mrs. Winthrop Rutherfurd was there accompanying Mrs. Shumatov, who painted the famous last portrait of the President; she was one of many other guests.
Obviously, the story of the “two consorts” is pure fabrication, as are so many other items in this book, including the “probably sexual relationship” with Eleanor’s bodyguard, Earl Miller.
