SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Dedication of Park to Take Place Today
- Share via
It seems natural that City Hall should invite the whole community to participate in today’s dedication of the city’s newest park. After all, local residents and the business community provided the impetus to develop Good Neighbors Park.
Dedication ceremonies will start at 1 p.m. on the park site at Alipaz Street and Calle Lucana. City officials will unveil a plaque commemorating the event during the ceremonies.
Residents are asked to bring a picnic lunch.
City officials say that three citizens had approached them about developing the vacant land owned by the city.
But after a series of discussions, the city decided turn the site into a park.
A volunteer group of workers and business people were assembled by Roy Sievers, city director of lands and facilities.
Landscapers, nurseries and other firms pooled their resources to provide materials and expertise.
On a weekend day last December, the work force gathered at the park site to pour concrete, sow grass and plant vegetation. The city, in the meantime, solicited potential names for the park from the public.
