World IN BRIEF : PERU : Guerrilla Leader Reportedly Captured

Victor Polay, 40, the leader of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement, was captured in Lima, officials said. The capture would mark a success for the crackdown by President Alberto Fujimori, who imposed near-dictatorial rule in April with the stated intention of waging war on political guerrillas and drug traffickers. Tupac Amaru is the smaller of two rebel groups in Peru; the larger is Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path).
