Wal-Mart Holds Annual Meeting: The annual meeting of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. turned into a memorial with 10,000 people gathering to honor founder Sam Walton two months after his death. The Barnhill Arena at the University of Arkansas was filled to capacity, with the overflow crowd moving to a room equipped with closed-circuit television. At the meeting, 14 directors were elected, including 13 who were reelected. In other business, shareholders voted 94% against launching an investigation into claims that some shoes sold at Wal-Mart stores were produced by forced prison labor in communist China. A group of shareholders belonging to the AFL-CIO sought approval for the investigation.
