Driver Killed by Crash Into Pole

LEMON HEIGHTS — A Santa Ana motorist, who was driving on the wrong side of the street, died early Saturday when his car struck a traffic light pole, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The 25-year-old man, whose name was withheld until his relatives could be notified, was driving east on 17th Street when the accident occurred about 5 a.m. Witnesses told authorities that the victim’s Ford Probe was traveling on the wrong side of the road.
His car, which was traveling about 50 m.p.h., eventually hit the light pole at Newport Avenue, said CHP Officer Jasper Begay. The driver was declared dead at the scene.
