SANTA ANA — A spurned boyfriend who shot himself in the head after fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend along a busy street died Wednesday, police said.
Juan Garcia, 18, of Santa Ana died about 2 p.m. at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, police said.
Garcia shot his former girlfriend, 20-year-old Nora Maldonado, also of Santa Ana, at an Irvine bus stop Tuesday afternoon, police said. The couple had been dating for a year, but Maldonado apparently broke off the relationship recently, police said.
Garcia approached Maldonado at a bus stop at Culver and Michelson drives, speaking with her briefly before drawing a gun and shooting her at close-range, witnesses told police. Garcia then sped off in a car, leading police on a short chase along the San Diego Freeway. He pulled over at the Culver Drive off-ramp and shot himself, police said.
