Two men were shot in Oceanside early Wednesday when a quarrel became violent, police say.
Luciano Contreras, 20, and Lazaro Sanchez-Vasquez, 24, were flown by Life Flight helicopter to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, Officer Bob George said.
Contreras was in serious condition, and Sanchez-Vasquez was listed as critical, hospital spokeswoman Sophia Valles said.
George said officers were summoned by a 1:10 a.m. telephone call to 312 S. Ditmar St., where the wounded men were found in a driveway and rear courtyard.
Sanchez-Vasquez told police that he and Contreras had been arguing with two other Latino men when one pulled out a handgun and shot them before driving off in a red van, George said.
