PREGNANT PAUSE: UC Irvine Chancellor Jack W. Peltason has told the faculty that he will be assigned to head the search committee for his own successor. But Peltason, who gave his last lecture Monday, adds that it’s “not probable” that a new UCI chancellor will be in place when he becomes president of the UC system Oct. 1. Says Peltason: “It takes about the same length of time to find a chancellor as it does to produce a baby these days.”
