State Treasurer Denies Backing McDonald
State Treasurer Kathleen Brown on Friday disavowed any endorsement of Carson Councilwoman Juanita McDonald in her bid for the Democratic nomination to the 55th Assembly District.
Brown’s communications director, Michael Reese, made the announcement after discovering that McDonald claimed the endorsement in her bid for a seat also being sought by two longtime Democratic assemblymen, Dave Elder and Dick Floyd.
The purported endorsement, Reese said, was made in a campaign brochure mailed to voters in the 55th Assembly District, which encompasses Carson and includes Wilmington, Compton and North Long Beach.
“We don’t know how it happened. We don’t know who is responsible. We just know we did not endorse in this race,†Reese said.
Efforts on Friday to reach McDonald and her son, Keith, who is campaign manager, about the mailer were unsuccessful.
