** Lush, “Spooky,†Reprise. Only rarely does this sophomore effort achieve the ABBA/Cocteau Twins hybrid pointed at by the quartet’s 1991 debut. There’s still an intriguingly haunting sheen to the gauzy interplay of Miki Berenyi’s and Emma Anderson’s voices and guitars, but “Spooky†shows no new ideas in songs or sonics.
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
