Woman Questioned in Man’s Slaying
SANTA ANA — A Lake Forest woman who told sheriff’s deputies she shot her former boyfriend has been released from custody after several hours of questioning, a sheriff’s official said Friday.
The 42-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was questioned well into the night Thursday at Santa Ana headquarters after telling deputies she shot Ricardo Ornelas, 40, at 11:55 a.m. after he broke into her home.
Ornelas, a Fountain Valley resident and nuclear engineer, died of a gunshot wound in the head, an autopsy concluded.
Sheriff Lt. Richard J. Olson said the investigation is continuing and refused further comment except to say that “there are lots of different interviews to be done†with friends and family.
Deputies found Ornelas’ body and a handgun in an upstairs bedroom.
