Edison’s Shelley Taylor has decided to drop the 800 meters to concentrate on the 1,600 at the Masters track and field meet Friday at Cerritos College.
Taylor, a senior who won both events at the Southern Section 3-A finals last week, had the fastest qualifying time in the 800, a personal-best 2 minutes 11.59 seconds, and the second-fastest time in the 1,600, 4:55.58.
“She might be the first person with the fastest time going in to drop an event,” Edison Coach Dave White said. “It’s something we decided (Wednesday). That’s been the plan for the last few weeks now. She got a PR in the 800 last week, but now she’s really geared up for the 1,600.”
