Olympic organizers have cut half of the 4,000 surplus athletes and officials signed up for the Summer Games.
Negotiations with 108 countries have resulted in promised reductions of 2,000 more team members, organizers said, and discussions are continuing with 64 other nations. There is room for 15,200 team members, but nearly 19,200 signed up for the Games.
