Herschensohn on Riot
I am amazed by some of the reactions politicians have had concerning the violence in Los Angeles. After reading about the various random shooting incidents in my own city in the local newspaper, I read in The Times about Republican Senate candidate Bruce Herschensohn’s proposal to eliminate the 15-day waiting period for purchasing firearms in response to the riots (“Herschensohn Says Rioters, Killers Are Beyond Help,” May 6).
Without the waiting period during a riot, everyone could simply rush to a gun store in the height of emotion, buy a gun on demand and join in the action. His proposal is about the most stupid idea I have heard yet in response to the recent violence.
