How ironic! Gates stays in office despite apparent assertions to resign, perhaps early in April. Then, while still chief, the riots, looting, arson and violence all occur on his watch. Instead of being comfortably ensconced in retirement, he must now be called upon to answer many hard questions about the recent events.
