Come On Over to My Place
Unless you have a map or you already know the way to Commercial Drive, you might not stumble on My Place.
It’s tucked out of the way in a nondescript building in an industrial park, but it’s definitely worth finding.
With long, picnic-style tables and benches, wood shavings on the floor and sports posters on the walls, it’s the kind of place groups of friends gravitate to for a few beers after a hard day at work.
My Place is usually teeming with activity in the early evenings and on Sundays, when brunch is served. A recent Saturday night found the bar much emptier but still a pleasant place to sip cocktails or shoot pool. A brick pit fireplace lends a warm, welcoming atmosphere to the back room.
For entertainment, in addition to the pool tables, there are a few video games and strategically placed television sets for sporting events. Music, provided by a compact-disc jukebox, is heavy on the classic rock and country, with some Motown thrown in for good measure.
Both mixed drinks and beer are reasonably priced at My Place (a large pitcher of suds is $5.50). On tap are Bud and Bud Light; bottled beers include Becks, Corona, Coors and Miller brands. Rose, Chablis, burgundy and blush wines are sold by the glass, half-liter or liter ($6.75 for the latter) and there are daily mixed drink specials.
Food here is even cheaper. Daily lunch specials, served from 11:15 a.m. to 2 p.m., include tacos for 35 cents and fire wings for $1.95. Wednesdays from 5:30 to 10 p.m. you can chow down on all-you-can-eat servings of beef and pork ribs for $6.95. And on Mondays, a spaghetti dinner will set you back just $1.95.
My Place, 5452 Commercial Drive, Huntington Beach. Open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m to midnight; Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to midnight. (714) 893-9809.
