SANTA CLARITA : Gang-Awareness Walk Scheduled
A one-mile gang-awareness walk in Santa Clarita on Saturday will also collect food to aid residents of South Los Angeles, organizers said.
Participants were asked to bring non-perishable food items to the K mart discount store at Valencia Boulevard and Bouquet Canyon Road for distribution by the Salvation Army.
Walkers will depart at 8 a.m. from four sites in the city. The walk will end at the K mart parking lot, which will provide the setting for a pancake breakfast sale and Parenting Fair. Also, there will be a Teen Festival featuring live bands and food booths at Newhall Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The four registration points for the walk are Santa Clarita City Hall on Valencia Boulevard, Saugus Swapmeet and Speedway on Soledad Canyon Road, and the intersections of Seco Canyon and Bouquet Canyon roads and San Fernando Road and Drayton Street.
The event, sponsored by the city of Santa Clarita, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and Santa Clarita Anti-Gang Task Force is intended to “raise awareness that gang violence is an issue affecting the whole Santa Clarita Valley,†said Jean Hinman, recreation coordinator for the Santa Clarita Department of Parks and Recreation, the agency coordinating the event.
