HUNTINGTON BEACH : Heart Surgery for Councilman Kelly
City Councilman Jack Kelly underwent triple-bypass heart surgery late Tuesday, a week after suffering a mild heart attack.
Kelly, 65, a former movie and television actor and twice mayor of Huntington Beach, reportedly was resting comfortably in a hospital intensive care unit. Friends said he is expected to remain hospitalized for about a week.
City officials would not release the name of the hospital where Kelly, the publisher of the weekly Huntington Beach News, is recuperating, but friends said he had surgery at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach.
City Council secretary Pat Jones said Kelly felt chipper enough Wednesday to receive a visit from his daughter, Nicole.
Kelly, who was best known for starring opposite James Garner in the 1960s television series “Maverick,†was initially taken to Huntington Humana Hospital by paramedics after he was stricken last week.
