PLATFORM : Take a Lead Role

We shouldn’t rely solely on government-appointed commissions to deal with our problems. I believe the answer lies primarily within us. We can work in partnership with other groups. For example, joint-venture partnerships can be formed with other people. However, we should have the principal role in solving our problems.
We have to pool and leverage our resources because we can’t count on large companies to invest in our communities. Most employment is created by smaller businesses, and we need to find ways to stimulate enterprise. It will take time to build a new economic foundation. But there are short-term answers.
I hope we will also begin to invest in our intellectual resources. We have youths who are only being solicited by gangs. Self-esteem programs can be developed for our young people.
Answers won’t be found by waiting for others to act. There’s a need for people to join a bandwagon of self-reliance.
