In another Grossmont 3-A game:

Monte Vista 9, Mt. Miguel 0--Manny Lutz opened the scoring with a two-run homer as Monte Vista (13-7-1, 2-0) won its seventh in a row. Travis Yaddow was two for three with three RBIs and Kalin Foulds two for four with three RBIs. Mt. Miguel fell to 8-9, 0-2.

Grossmont 2-A League

El Capitan 7, West Hills 5--Matt McFarlane hit a two-run triple to break a 5-5 tie off H.K. Caldwell in the bottom of the sixth. Earlier, Jason Phillips hit his second home run of the year for El Capitan, which improved to 12-6, 1-0. West Hills is 7-8, 1-1.

Valhalla 15, Santana 2--Ray Neder took a shutout into the seventh inning, when Santana’s Robert Ervin hit a home run. Neder also went four for five, scored two runs and drove in two more for Valhalla (6-10-3, 1-1). Teammate Harry Muns was two for three with two runs scored. Santana is 12-6-1, 1-1.

Avocado League

Escondido 13, Ramona 0--Escondido’s Mark Redman pitched five innings and struck out 10, as Ramona was held to one hit. For the Cougars (9-7, 5-0), Jason Aguilar was four for five with five RBIs, Nick Terrszas was three for four with two RBIs, and Mike Fraan got two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Ramona dropped to 5-12, 1-4.

El Camino 7, San Pasqual 5--Thomas Wilka (three for four, two doubles) and Wille Price (two for four, one double) collected five of El Camino’s eight hits. In the top of the eight, the Wildcats (6-11, 2-3) scored two runs on a double by Wilka and a single by Price, two errors and a sacrifice by Ryan Whitson. San Pasqual fell to 3-10-2, 2-3.

San Marcos 7, Rancho Bernardo 6--With two outs in the eighth, Denny McAdams walked, advanced to third when Rancho Bernardo tried to pick him off and the throw went into right field, and scored off Ryan Gallego’s RBI single up the middle. San Marcos improved to 7-8, 4-1; Rancho Bernardo dropped to 7-8, 3-2.

Oceanside 10, Carlsbad 1--Carl Mathis drove in four runs with a two-run home run and a double, and Aaron Miller had two hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases for Oceanside (10-7-2, 2-3). Carlsbad is 7-11, 1-4.

Palomar League

Poway 3, Mt. Carmel 1--For No. 6 Poway (11-3, 4-1), Mike Sharp’s two-run homer--he drove in Chris Wisdom--with one out in the eighth inning kept upset-minded Mt. Carmel (7-10, 1-4) in check.

Rancho Buena Vista 10, San Dieguito 4--Grady Griffith had the game-winning hit as RBV (10-7-1, 4-1) scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning at Encinitas. Jim Perez pitched the final five innings in relief, allowed only one hit and improved to 2-4. Nick Dragomire was two for three with three RBIs, including a game-tying hit in the sixth, and Jim Hill was two for three with three RBIs. San Dieguito (7-11-1, 1-4) committed two errors in the ninth. Brian Goodbody had a three-run homer in the second for the Mustangs.

Fallbrook 8, Vista 6--Brent Fifer had a triple and a double and two RBIs for Fallbrook (8-6-1, 2-3). Aaron Rounsifer had a home run and a double and three RBIs for No. 5 Vista (12-3-1, 3-2).

Orange Glen 3, Torrey Pines 2--The Falcons outhit host Orange Glen (6-10-1, 3-2), 11-4, but left 12 players on base. For Torrey Pines (4-9-1, 2-3), Ryan Lynch picked up three hits, Matt Tranchina and Jeff Jerries and Chris Schweighart all got two hits.

SOFTBALL

Avocado League

San Pasqual 4, El Camino 1--Senior shortstop Paloma VanderZanden picked up three of San Pasqual’s five hits, stole a base, scored a run and make a diving stop near second base in the sixth inning that helped shut the door on an El Camino rally. Golden Eagles pitcher Erin Combe, a junior right hander, allowed three hits and an unearned run and improved to 8-1. San Pasqual improved to 10-4, 4-1; El Camino is 8-7, 3-2.

Palomar League

Mt. Carmel 1, Poway 0--Winning pitcher Kim Parra (2-3), went two for three and had the game’s only RBI.
