The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday approved a $4-million loan package that will pave the way for conversion of the historic Pacific Theater into a new Hollywood Entertainment Museum.

Museum President Phyllis Caskey said the Community Redevelopment Agency funds will help provide a grand facility to remember the world’s movie capital. “It’s surprising that we do not already have a museum like this, in the birthplace of movies,†Caskey said.

Memorabilia from television, radio and motion pictures will be featured at the museum, which will be at 6433 Hollywood Blvd. The facility will feature state-of-the-art exhibits, Casey said. But the museum must raise $6.5 million toward the $10-million purchase price of the existing theater site. Only then will $3.5 million of the CRA funding package become available to the museum’s Board of Directors.
