University’s Wrestling Coach Resigns Position
IRVINE — University wrestling Coach Chris Conlin, who led the Trojans to five consecutive Sea View League titles, resigned from that post Thursday.
Conlin, who will remain at the school as defensive coordinator for the football team and head baseball coach, said he stepped down because he didn’t have enough time for coaching three sports and wanted to spend more time with his family.
“I wasn’t able to do what a full-time coach should do,†said Conlin, who has coached the University wrestling team the past eight years. “A full-time coach raises money, checks grades, runs study hall and with three programs, I wasn’t able to keep up the type of program I wanted to have. I didn’t want the kids to suffer.â€
Conlin, who has coached wrestling for 15 years, lauded University assistant wrestling coach Mark Takkinen.
