NEWPORT BEACH — County Supervisor Thomas F. Riley is scheduled to be released today from Hoag Hospital after a series of tests on his heart and insulin levels, an aide said Thursday.
Riley, who was in stable condition Thursday, was admitted to the hospital Wednesday because of weakening health.
But after tests to check his blood sugar level and to determine what level of medication he should take for his diabetes, Riley, 79, “sounds just fine,” said executive assistant Christie McDaniel.

Aides said Riley, who in 1990 had a quadruple heart bypass operation, had been breathing uneasily lately. His doctor suggested it might be best for him to check into the hospital for tests and Riley agreed.
