Three Orange County singers are among nine semi-finalists who will compete Friday at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in the Bel Canto Foundation annual opera competition.
Sopranos Ann Patrice Dugaw, of Santa Ana Heights, and Tanya Jean Kluck, Irvine, and bass Mel Whitehead, Anaheim, will compete for a chance to sing in the finals on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Fashion Island in Newport Beach. The semi-final round is closed, but the finals at Fashion Island are open to the public.
The overall winner will get a scholarship to the Bel Canto Opera seminar at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., June 28 through Aug. 8.
