Granada Hills’ Berkowitz Named Top Basketball Player

Karen Berkowitz, a senior guard who led Granada Hills High to the girls’ City Section 3-A Division basketball title, was selected the division player of the year.
Berkowitz led the Highlanders to a 13-7 record and set a school record with 41 points in a City semifinal victory over Garfield.
She was one of four Valley players named to the 3-A team. Three Valley players were chosen to the 4-A team.
Joining Berkowitz on the 3-A team were Granada Hills’ teammate Shelise Tillman, Nicole Baynes of Grant and Shantye Morgan of Sylmar, all senior forwards.
Players selected to the 4-A team included junior forward Shaneya Harris of Kennedy, senior center Cicely Brewster of Van Nuys and senior point guard Suzi Shimoyama of North Hollywood. Harris also was a 1991 All-City pick.
Annette Conany of Canoga Park was an honorable mention selection in the 4-A Division.
