CPB Calls Carlson: Richard Carlson, a U.S. ambassador who was once a political editor and reporter at KABC-TV Channel 7 in Los Angeles, on Thursday was named president of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the agency that distributes federal funds to public radio and television stations. Carlson will assume his new duties in July, replacing Donald Ledwig who announced last fall that he would not seek re-appointment. Carlson was director of the Voice of America from 1986-91 and is currently U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Seychelle, a group of islands in the Indian Ocean.
