At the request of the Senior Citizens Commission, the City Council recently approved more than $22,000 in repairs and equipment for the senior center.
The city will spend $14,000 to replace about 585 square yards of worn carpeting. In many areas, the carpeting had not been replaced in nine years.
The pool tables will also be re-covered at a cost of $400. The council also approved the purchase of a TV set, a VCR and a photocopying machine for printing the senior newsletter. The estimated cost of the new equipment is $8,500.
The money for repairs will come from the Interior Development Fund, a special account used for buying new items and replacing worn equipment.
