Diamond Bar : Council OKs Dry Cleaner

The City Council last week unanimously approved a permit for the city’s eighth dry-cleaning business in spite of a complaint by another dry cleaner that it would create too much competition.
The council issued a conditional use permit to Jim Dandy Cleaners to open in the Montefino Shopping Center.
During a public hearing Tuesday, Grigor Haytaian, whose Thrifty Cleaners is only 75 yards from the proposed Jim Dandy Cleaners, said that competition is tough enough with the five cleaning businesses already situated in his quarter-mile area.
Haytaian and some residents said that Jim Dandy would also worsen already-troublesome traffic and parking problems in the 12-store Montefino Center and the eight-store Montefino Plaza, which share the same parking facilities and entrances.
Council members said that they didn’t consider the traffic concerns significant and that it wasn’t their responsibility to decide issues of business competition.
