Florida’s Nicole Haislett and Stanford’s Summer Sanders broke the two oldest American records, and Crissy Ahmann-Leighton of Arizona broke her own national mark in the second day of the NCAA swimming championships.
After 11 events, two-time defending champion Texas led Stanford, 359-356.
Haislett’s record came in the 200-yard freestyle, which she swam in 1 minute 43.28 seconds to break the 1979 national record of 1:44.10, held by Cynthia Woodhead.
Sanders’ time of 4:02.28 eclipsed the U.S. mark in the 400-yard individual medley by 2.35. The previous mark was set in 1981 by Tracy Caulkins.
Ahmann-Leighton defended her 100-yard butterfly title by finishing in 51.75--0.61 seconds quicker than her American record time.
