A 43-year-old Sylmar man who apparently was having car trouble was killed when he was struck by a tractor-trailer truck as he stood in the right lane of the Foothill Freeway, the California Highway Patrol reported Thursday.
Leroy Calvillo was declared dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, CHP Officer Chuck Curtiss said.
Calvillo and a passenger, Pam Walker of Sylmar, were traveling west on the freeway near the Hubbard Street on-ramp in Sylmar when they had problems with the automobile.
Calvillo pulled over to the right-hand shoulder, Curtiss said.
“The driver was out of his car, standing on the left of his vehicle in the traffic lane when he was struck,” Curtiss said.
Roy Love, 21, of Grand Terrace, Calif., the driver of the big rig, was not cited, Curtiss said.
