A Ventura man died of head injuries after his pickup truck overturned on California 118 in Moorpark when he tried to negotiate a curve at high speed, authorities said Wednesday.
Arnulfo Rosas, 42, was pinned in the wrecked truck for 30 minutes Tuesday evening while a heavy rescue unit from the Ventura County Fire Department worked to free him, a Fire Department spokesman said.
He was declared dead at the scene, said Zelmira Isaac, a deputy coroner.
The single-vehicle crash occurred at 5:15 p.m. as Rosas drove his truck east on a curving stretch of California 118 west of Grimes Canyon Road, a CHP spokesman said.
Rosas, who was alone, approached a curve that was marked for 35 m.p.h. at 55 to 60 m.p.h., left the dirt shoulder and overturned. He sustained massive head injuries despite his use of a seat belt, the spokesman said.
