OXNARD : Infant Dies When Car Hits Stroller
A 2 1/2-month-old infant in a stroller was crushed to death by a car when a motorist failed to see two pedestrians pushing a stroller across an Oxnard street, authorities said.
Gary Lokey of Port Hueneme was pronounced dead at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Oxnard police said.
The infant’s mother, Rebecca Sue Lokey, 18, and her sister, Christina Ivester, 19, of Port Hueneme, were pushing the stroller across Hemlock Street near Victoria Avenue when the accident occurred about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday. According to a police report, Patricia Payne, 29, of Ventura was driving west on Hemlock and did not see the pedestrians until she was too close to stop, police said.
Payne, who was driving about 30 m.p.h., was not charged in the accident, police said.
