OUTLOOK
With seven starters back and several talented newcomers on the roster, Marina is in good position to improve on last year’s league finish. That’s not good news for the rest of the league, because the Vikings finished in second place last year, one game behind co-champions Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach. “I think we’ll be a better team this year,” Luth said. “We have more strength defensively and we have some very strong freshmen.” Luth also expects Marina to be a strong hitting team, led by Luft and Presutti. Luft, a first-team all-league selection last year, hit .263; Presutti hit .245. “They’re our hitting strength,” Luth said. “They should produce some runs for us.” Another top hitter is Yorke, who hit .474 in league play last year and was a second-team all-league choice. Tarvis and Crouch are expected to be Marina’s top pitchers, although Luth is unsure who will emerge as the No. 1 starter. Williams and Thompson provide depth at catcher for the Vikings.
