United Way Controversy

To those looking for an excuse not to give to the United Way the recent flap over Aramony’s humongous salary and princely perks was the answer to their prayers (“United Way’s Chief Quits in Funds Dispute,†Feb. 28). Actually, as a percent of the United Way’s total operations it was but a drop in the bucket. Admittedly, as an example of insensitivity it ranks along with “Let ‘em eat cake!†But that shouldn’t stop anyone from wanting to help those less fortunate than themselves. Their needs continue and can only be met by the faithful support of true believers.

If you thought for a moment that Aramony’s arrogance gave you license to withhold your own donation to United Way, think again! You won’t hurt Aramony; only the innocent needy, that, heaven forbid, could someday include you. Search your soul and be generous.
