Paul Visher Sentenced: The former Hughes Aircraft vice president was sentenced to 1,500 hours of community service and fined $250,000 in U.S. District Court in Washington for his involvement in funneling illegal payments to officials of an international satellite consortium. Visher, 69, pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice in January for his role in creating false reports that attempted to show that certain payments made to Hughes consultants were legitimate. The payments were actually funneled to Jose Alegrett, former deputy director of Intelsat, a multi-government satellite consortium. Visher was also sentenced to three years’ probation.
