OUTLOOK

If Whitson had one wish, it would be that his team remain injury free this season. Whitson lost five players to injury at various times last season. “I’m looking forward to having a group that does not get hurt or sick,” Whitson said. “This group is looking like it’s going to play good ball.” Whitson returns seven starters from last year’s fourth-place team. “I have someone at each position who can handle the position,” Whitson said. “I also have good backup for every position, and that may be the difference between this year’s team and other years.” Queypo and Fowler will handle the pitching, according to Whitson, who expects his team to finish among the top two in league. Queypo had a batting average of .350 last season. “I think in our league we have a reputation for having excellent pitching,” Whitson said. “And we did have a very good fielding team last year, too. So this year, we have excellent pitching and fielding.” Whitson believes cohesiveness should be one of this team’s strengths. “There’s tremendous support and backup all the way around,” he said.
